The History behind
UKULALA INN
THE BUSHVELD VILLAGE HOME
Situated near the Malalane gate of the Kruger National Park. It is reported that since the 1950's our town served as a rest-stop for weary travelers on the N4, en-route to Mozambique or Swaziland. It is a very popular spot for people to rest and explore.
Visitors that pass this way often query about the origins of our town’s name, Malalane.
There are two lines of thought. Some say it evolved from the Swazi words "eMlalani" (which means the place of the palms), or "lala" (which means to sleep). Either way, the word “lala” resonates with us, as it is tradition in our home to say “lekker lala” (slang for; have a good night’s rest), before retiring to bed each night. The name “ukulala” (meaning sleeping) and Inn (historically characterized as a rural lodge), was born right there and then.
Well, today, here we are, ready to spoil our guests and immerse them in local culture!
